This is rough from the Koriot opal field.This field is 5 hours north of Lightning ridge and it is in Queensland.It is known for its chocolate iron stone with precious opal embedded in it.This material takes a great polish and is easy to get a high gloss on.
The photo is taken with the stone wet.

At present there are very few full time miners here as open cut mining is expensive but smaller part time miners work here and manage to find some material which isnt to deep.
