For sale is the most beautiful Ethiopian Crystal Opal I have ever laid my eyes on. The look of this stone is so similar to Mexican Contra Luz opal, yet this one comes out of Ethiopia! The rough I purchased started at 600+ carats, and originally had a honeycomb pattern on the outside, but within where it wasn’t cracked, had a beautiful prism color effect. The color play of this stone is out of this world, displaying a prism of full rainbow color. This stone displays a “Contra Luz” color play, meaning when light shines through the stone, the colors play big time, full prism effect. Light used for photography consisted of natural and LED light. Pictures have not been enhanced in any way except for cropping out background, and stone is 100% natural. This was cut by myself, as well as shaped and polished. Under little to no light, the opal is dark and pure as honey. Shining light through the side of the stone reveals a mystical world of colors. This particular opal is “non-hydrophane” or non-porous, so does not absorb water. Care for this stone would be non-chemical cleaning, or a polishing cloth to remove dirt, dust, or finger prints. Highly recommended to keep this stone in an environment that is moist, whether in a damp ziplock, or displayed with a little bit of water however displayed, as non-hydrophane opals can be subject to shallow crazing or cracking if left in too dry of an environment for too long. I’ve kept stones like this for long periods of time with no problems as long as you have a bit of moisture. This stone is the most beautiful collectors piece, and deserves to be in someone’s collection, handed down generation to generation. Nice heavy stone, and very slick, so careful handling over soft ground is recommended. Clarity of the stone consists of no inclusions, cracks, or sand spots. Polish is highly proficient. Stone is extremely smooth. Loop clean, eye clean, “glass-like” appearance. At $50 per carat, You won’t find many like this on the market today as clear a Crystal Opal as this. Stone is currently being stored in a padded damp ziplock for safe keeping.
