Opal rings have been set for hundreds of years and even today there are many old designs that are still popular from cluster settings of several opals in one ring to Princess Diamond design which has a focal opal with Diamonds around them.
Modern day opal rings are designed to show the opal as the focal stone and might have just few diamonds on the sides to compliment the opal. Sterling silver opal rings today are mostly Doublet or triplet opal and solid opals are mostly white fire opal or crystal opal and inlay is now popular also. In gold opal rings only the best opal is set, especially high cabochon black or crystal opals.
In the fashion world rings are the most stylish and personal type of jewellery. The opal industry is no exception. Patterns vary from one person to another and jewellery settings from one person to another. It is safe to see that you will never find someone with the exact same accessory.
Opal rings vary dramatically in price depending on the type of opal(white, black, boulder, ethiopian)the brightness of the colours and patterns and whether or not the opal has been treated. The most common colour hues of an opal are green and white, while black and red are the rarest.
In general like any other precious stone, an opal usually increases in value if it isingood condition, especially when combined with other precious stones.
