Freeshape Opal Doublet from Lightning Ridge, Australia. Cut, polished, ready to set into jewellery.                                           Opal doublets are a an assembled form of opal. A doublet is a combination of a precious natural crystal or light opal and a veneer of black potch. These are bonded together to create a doublet which emulates the brightness of colour found in black and dark opals. All of the opal doublets I cut with very high standards.                                                     The opal was mined in Mulga, which is an area near Lightning Ridge renowned for the precious black opal found there. The stone has been backed with N1 black opal making it a true composite opal gemstone. The gem weighs 6.25 carats. Measures 16.25mm length, 15.85mm width, and has 5.12mm depth. It has scrpiture pattern with blue, green and purple colours.
