MATRIX PENDANT

This is a polished piece of matrix from  the Opalton opal field in Queensland.The precious opal is embedded in the boulder ironstone.The stone has been hand wire wrapped with base metal and silver plated.The bail size is app 4.5 mm which is large enough for most necklaces.

Polished both sides.

Matrix opal is where the opal occurs as a network of veins or infilling of voids or between grains of the host rock .Matrix comprises precious opaline silica as an infilling of pore spaces in silty claystone or ironstone.
