Treatment: Carbonisation to darken the host rock.
Andamooka Matrix Opal is a natural stone found in South Australia. This stone has been treated (with sugar and heat) to darken the host rock and make the opal more visible (this is commonly done for Andamooka matrix). This enhancement results in an extremely bright stone for a fraction of the cost of expensive black opals.
There are two varieties of Andamooka Matrix, this is the hard Limestone-Quartzite variety that takes a good polish and does not require epoxy treatment.
