This is a stones mined in Andamooka with a solid glass top to protect the stone-there is no base just the opal so its not classed as a triplet. It is set in a silver pendent.
The opal has been carbonized to become black.
Before the opal was formed during a ice age the glaciers bought down rounded pebbles and debris-the black dots you see are the deposits of the glacier .making it a interesting stone.
