Folks here is some new material from Mintabie which no longer exists now. The town was closed, the miners equipment trashed, no one is mining at Mintabie now and given the state of affairs up there, no one will ever return to mining there.

This piece measures 87 x 50 x 10mm and weighs 2.25 ounces or 349 carats. It is full of color as you can see. Well I should say as you can see going by the edges of the material and this is how the color is judged with this Opal. This piece has not been faced, so the miner doesnt really know how it will cut, so with this Opal, you can get good surprises but never bad.

Plenty of red on show. Cab or carve or just face up for a specimen, the choice is yours. This type of material is harder than concrete and the groound it comes from is the most difficult to mine on the fields. The worlds largest Bulldozers can only rip the ground with one tooth, and it is prone to breaking so hard is the ground.
