BOULDER ROUGH “QUARTZ’
This is a natural untreated rough specimen form the Quartz mine in Queensland that was mined over 20 years ago. This is opal that has formed in the biscut [sandstone] band. There will be some faults in the stone but the area is known for the amount of silica in the sandstone which will take a decent polish. This is not easy material to polish as a leather wheel is best to finish it and you may have to leave some pit holes in the stone but it will be a rewarding experience for you.
The Opal Sheriff program allows our members to request an audit on any auction, which is completed by an independent Gemologist who assesses the accuracy of the item description and pictures.
