Extreamly colorful Virgin Valley limbcast core. This piece of opal boasts the full spectrum of super flashy and vivid contra-luz play-of-color.

I Found this piece during my visit to Rainbow Ridge (located in Virgin Valley, Nevada). Nevada is famous for its precious opal limb casts (pretrified wood that formed with, or was entirely replaced by opal).
Virgin Valley precious opal wood replacment is considered quite rare. Cores occure when the very center of a limb, twig, or root become completely opalized. Cores are often wrapped in "sleeves" of partly opalized material, and can be very tricky to find! They're known for intense and introcate play of color.
There are very few precious wood deposits globally. Virgin valley might be the most famous, making the specimens from this location sought after world-wide. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message!
