This rough opal weighs 253.00 carats
and is rare high quality natural solid rough Andamooka Rainbow Matrix Opal. This specimen has some sensational strong bright play of colour and pattern showing throughout this piece. Material of this quality is very hard to find and is a true collectors and investment piece!!!

Measuring: 64.00mm x 38.50mm x 17.00 - 18.30mm in depth.

Rainbow Matrix Opal is natural precious opal which is embedded in sandstone.

The black and brown spots within the stone are natural pebbles.

It has been treated in a sugar solution and then heated until it carbonises to turn the host sandstone rock black to highlight the colour of the precious opal within the stone.

This treatment in no way effects the opal.

The sandstone surface is porous and can be difficult to get a good high gloss polish. Once shaped and sanded, depending how deep you go, it may need to be re-treated. It can also be coated with a polimar resin to simulate a high gloss polish finish.
