Opalized fossils include vegetation or wood from Boulder opal Fields.
This covers a huge area in central Queensland known a s the
Winton Formation.
But still it is only small pockets of boulder opal that is
termed in the trade as Boulder opal wood fossils, also known as wood replacement opal, fossil opal,
fossilized wood opal or Lithoxyl opal where the structure of tree is obvious
It can be more than just wood, as other small vegetation
would also be fossilized but it is more rare to have any opal colour. It is also
the fragments of wood or vegetation that can be seen in these specimens that
make them very attractive
The Cathedral pattern is considered one of the rarest patterns
and the advantage is that wood may also be in different colours from brown to
bone or ivory colour
Most of the potch is very sandy light brown and not dark
rich colour.
