Folks here is an intriguing piece of Opal from Coober Pedy.

At first glance it looks like a sandstone nobby that has had the face revealed.

If you look closely at the back you can see a seam of Opal that has good color in it.

So what we have here is an Opalised Shell, probably a Clam very similar to those we have today.

It weighs 127 carats, so it is lilght for its size. This tells me that there is a chance that under the sandstone is more shell.

Who knows it may be solid color in there, it may be only what is on the face.

The complete shell replacement could be under the sandstone for your dremel to reveal.

Only you will find out.

So I have priced this one on only the color showing, cut out and set as a pendant. Whatever other color is inside you are not being charged for.

My honest opinion is that there is a full side, maybe two under the sand. It would be rare for that seaam to show on the back and not join up to the face.
