Opal Art

Opal Art is creative design work which is performed by master craftsman.

Gemstone carving was perfected in Asia thousands of years ago with Jade and agate gemstones. Ancient Europe carved gemstones and cameos.

Today it is a lost art as most carvers cannot carve and even in china the master carvers are now on extremely high wages, which can be ten times the average workers wage

Most carvings are now machine done so agates and jade can easily be carved by machine, even cameos are now machine cut. But opals are different.

Each opal is unique and has to be hand carved for the shape of the rough opals

Even boulder opal which has this bars cannot be machine cut, and each one is hand carved on drilled style equipment

Opal Art can be as simple as adding crystal opal as inlay into potch ironstone to carving opal to show traditional designs such as angels or chariot warriors

Opal art includes black potch with just bit colour carved into dinosaur teeth or sharks teeth. Animal carvings are popular as 3D design so animal can be viewed from all directions and popular carvings animals are prized by many collectors

An Indian head design is carved into boulder opal and this is so creative as every design is unique and can be mhttps://www.opalauctions.com/auctions/opal-carvings/indian-head/ade into exquisite jewelry from belt buckles to opal pendants

Aboriginal art designs are unique to the local native aborigines of Australia and the Berta’s Opal Collection has many fine aboriginal designs in their opals and each design represents story passed down from generation to generation
