Precious crystal opal core (wood replacment) from the Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine, located in Northern Nevada.

I found this piece myself while visiting in july, 2024. This beautiful opal core weighs in at 22.55 carats. It displays a crystal-clear base color, and a ghostly contra luz play-of-color that ranges from electric blue, to swamp green, to a light red.

Virgin Valley precious opal wood replacment is considered quite rare. Cores occure when the very center of a limb, twig, or root become completely opalized. Cores are often wrapped in "sleeves" of partly opalized material, and can be very tricky to find! They're known for intense and introcate play of color.
