INDONESIAN WOOD FOSSIL OPAL STONE

This is a piece of natural opal polished i purchased on my last trip to Banten. It is a opalized wood fossil and a top specimen.

This stone is volcanic in origin. It is a common practice here for sellers to put baby oil on the stone but we have wiped it dry. i believe they do that as the finish on most stones isnt high and it does hide pits ect. This stone was heat treated by placing in foil and heated in sand with oil. I suspect they have added a resin as it has a nice glossy finish to it . I did cut the top off so you can see its naturally black inside.

This materiel loves strong sunlight-it a dim light there is very little colour play.The video was taken under halogen lights.
