Folks, this is not the most valuable Opalized Shell I have, but it is technically the niceset specimen I have come across for the price.
This shell looks as though it formed with the living mollusc inside, such is the delineation between segments of the shell and color.
This shell has recently been identofied as a Lightning Ridge Fresh Water Mussel Shell
Hopefully the pics tell the story pretty well, bands of color on a complete shell with that will sit beautifully on its little bottom.
This will need very little work to reveal the fine color inside and expose all that lovely fine detail of the shell iines where the lips meet. Im so tempted to polish this one myself its not fair.
This would make an amazing pendant, that will attract plenty of attention. You could wear this as a ringstone, I am sure of it.
No matter what you decide, its a very special Opal. its weighty, its chunky, its just beautiful.
