Over the many years of mining at Lightning Ridge I have found several of these Yabby buttons (including the ones here) But I have found only a few with color. The ones with color can be worth high dollars. These fossils are over 100 million years old.
Below is an article from the Australian Opal Center about yabby buttons:
Freshwater crayfish
The opalised gastroliths of freshwater crayfish are known locally as ‘yabby buttons.’ Crayfish use gastroliths to store calcium from their exoskeletons (‘shells’) before they moult, then release the calcium to harden their new protective coating. Fossil yabby buttons are usually around 10-12mm across Ref: http://www.australianopalcentre.com/opalised-fossils
My Guarantee to you: If you are not more than satisfied with any of your purchase, please return opal in it's original condition. As soon as you return the opal we will process your refund 100%. We offer money back guarantee on all purchases without exception. We are seeking happy customers. Because I live and work mainly in Lightning Ridge where there is no access to Fed Ex or major international shippers, Australia Post is the main shipping service I will be sending items through (unless the opal is being sent via my wife Helen or associate Jing from Philippines) Australia Post is very reliable.
We are completely determined to earn your positive feedback and are happy to discuss any issues at anytime as we seek only positive feedback. Thanks!
