RARE BOULDER OPAL FOSSIL WOOD REPLACEMENT
Source Blackgate Queensland opal fieldsAUSTRALIA
Mined in 1980 and has been in family collection ever since
The circles that you can view are called Ooids orooltic .
These are sedimentary ironstone with spherical growths .
These ooliths appear to have formed in quite shallow, moving water in which chemical precipitation of iron compounds predominated
So we can assume this wood specimen fell in shallow waters in ironstone country which is well represented in Queensland.
Ooliths consist of concentric growths around a nucleus, which may be a minute quartz grain with inclusions.
THIS OPAL MINED 1986 AND NOW IN GOLD COAST OPAL AND GEMSTONE MUSEUM
OFFERED A S VIEWING PLEASURE ONLY A S WE DO NOT WISH TO SELL IT
