This is a bright doublet and professionally Mounted onto Ironstone backing with the shell in its original form sitting perfectly onto the Ironstone.

Shell patch is a small field in the northern reaches of the Coober Pedy mining area. Its called this because of the large number of pockets of opalized shells found there.
