This is a polished piece of the new Stayish deposit of black opal in the Welo region. This piece has cracks. This type of opal is naturally black (not smoked) and not hydrophane (they don’t absorb water like most Welo opals). This type of opal seems to be prone to cracking/crazing and has therefore been stabilized.
