Treating is similar to used with Andamooka matrix opal but instead cooked in sugar and burn in acid this opal is only burned in oil to turn light brown base to black and enhance color. Treatment usually 1-2mm deep but may go deeper. Cutting deeper may cause brown base come to surface and has to repeat burning process.
Very porous base opal makes it hard to polish. Clear coat is commonly used to make top shiny.
