Triplets

Triplet opal rings offer the brilliant colour of a solid gem opal at only a fraction of the cost. Many triplets feature stunning fire colours and patterns.
A triplet opal is so named because it has three components: a thin slice of crystal opal sandwiched between a clear top and a black backing. The top is quartz or glass while the backing can be black potch or manmade resin.
The black backing greatly enhances the fire colour, while the clear top protects the opal. For this reason, gem opal triplets make good ring stones. They can last 20 years with just an occasional polish by a jeweler. It is not recommended that gem opal triplets get wet, so you'll want to wear gloves when washing dishes.
With just a little extra care of your triplet opal ring, you can enjoy the look of a solid gem opal.
