Opal Andamooka

The famous Andamooka Opals were discovered in the historic opal mining town of Andamooka, South Australia. In the 1950s, an Andamooka Opal was presented to Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her first visit to Australia. Many of the crystal opals mined in the Andamooka opal fields have stunning colours and are made into creative opal carvings.

Beautiful fire-crystal opal is found in the White Dam Opal Mine. Also popular is the Matrix Opal, which is sandstone cooked in sulphuric acid and sugar.
