Mintabie Opals

In 1976, large earth-moving equipment was bought in to work the Mintabie opal fields and nearby Lambina opal field. Bulldozers, Bobcats, and vacuum hoists replaced wheelbarrow mines. 

These South Australian mines consistently produce good crystal opals, with unique fire and colour contrasts. These crystal opals also make beautiful triplets.

Opalised fossils are also found in this area.
