About this item specifically~ This is an extremely rare (almost mythical) type of precious nodular opal from the Madras, Oregon area in the USA. This particular locality is one of the thunderegg deposits with lots and lots of volcanic rhyolitic common opal in blue and other colors, but there are a few...very few that have precious opal once in a great while. The opal is rhyolitic and not much as cutting rough, really, but as a specimen, this piece shows faint precious rare "cool palette" colorplay on brown-grey gradient base opal in the rock matrix. This particular chunk is unusually large and contains a blocky section of opal that may possibly cut into a stone of some sort. It may crack and it may be unsuccessful (we have cut a few stones from this material successfully), but if you are an experienced cutter that feels like giving it an attempt, this piece is a super-rare chance to try. From a collector perspective, it is from an qextinct locality and would be a great addition to any serious opal collection. This is a partial nodule filled with common and true precious opal and the naturally glossy finish makes it great for a serious opal collection. It weighs about 155 carats and measures about 47mm x 28mm x 21mm deep, aprx. max. dim. This ExoticOpal is being offered with a very low reserve~
