Archeological records show that opals were mined in Africa as far back as 4,000 years BC and used to make tools. This was in the area known today as Kenya.

Do not mix tanzanite gemstone with Tanzanian opals .
There is also some Dentritic opal found which is moss like inclusions that have formed in the opal.
