Welo Top Grade Cutters

28.86 carats, measuring 28 mm x 15 mm x 15 mm

This piece is part of a very special parcel of top grade brightness, rare body tone and highly geometric patterns of opal rough. All of this group are grades above most of what is offered on the internet anywhere today.

This piece is an artist's palette of color rendered in brush strokes in a geometric, almost harlequin like pattern. A little darker body shows the colors off even better, The whole spectrum is here, smoldering in a geometric array of bars and pods. The bars or towers are separate structures of color snug against one another, with pods of contrasting or matching color floating above, around and through them. An altogether amazing display of a patterm unique to Ethiopian opal.

Welo opal has hydrophane properties and will absorb water. Wetting it will cause it to gain weight and will affect both the body tone and color display. This rough has not been watered for weight or extra brightness, No treatments of any kind. Pictures are all taken dry, mostly in sunshine or bright overcast. It's been a rainy summer.
