About this item specifically~

Once again, ExoticOpal is proud to offer a rare and beautiful opal from another unusual locale.  Piaui, Brazil is known amongst opal collectors as having really beautiful opal with intense color (much brighter than most) and it is also especially unlikely to craze or crack.  All opal owes its beautiful play of color to a water content that varies by type and locale.  When it is mined or cut, it begins to dessicate and depending on the water content, it can start to develop the characteristic cracks that sometimes occur in many types.  Brazilian opal is much harder than most other opal and it also has a lower water content than many other types.  As a result, it is essentially the most stable opal available on the market and the amount of colorplay and intensity is about as nice as opal gets for such a stable product. (Unfortunately, in most cases, the most colorful opal with the brightest fire is often so unstable that it must be stored in water or it will begin to crack almost immediately upon excavation.  The most notable example of this is crystal opal from Virgin Valley, Nevada, in the US.  It is fossil replacement opal that has formed in a rich and moist environment over time and as soon as it begins to dry, it begins to crack and lose its appeal.  Normally, this causes such opal to be of value to collectors and not to the commercial market because it cannot be cut and set.  Although this is not always the case, odds are it will be so in the overwhelming majority of cases.)   It is covered front and back with positively beautiful bright pastel colored STRIPED fire that explodes in the slightest movement.  The photos of this piece really do it no justice whatsoever.  The photos show a microscopic crack on the lower side and although it is completely invisible to the naked eye, it will be completely covered by the bezel when the stone is set.  This is a natural and ancient feature and will not ever have any bearing on the value or appearance of the stone.  Brazilian opal frequently have tiny flaws not visible to the naked eye and the fire is so bright you miss them completely.  If you have never seen Brazilian crystal opal, this is a great oppportunity to see what a special material it is and how nice quality ExoticOpal can be.  The stone is a nice high domed piece.  It weighs about 2.8 cts and measures about 11mmx7.7mmx5mm approx.  Honestly, it is a stone that is so unusual and unique with this pattern that the value is difficult to assess.   In true ExoticOpal form, however, we are offering this magnificent opal for only $288 obo ~ HURRY!

About our photos, videos and imaging techniques~

Please note that we employ photography techniques that emphasize the beauty of the stones and that many microscopic elements NOT visible to the naked eye will sometimes show in the photographs...please disregard any lint, black gemcup fibers, dust, etc. that you may see in the photos.  We will always disclose any noticeable or consequential flaws or imperfections in our listings.  These unique characteristics add to the provenance of the stones and ensure your investment is in quality, 100% natural and untreated opal. This item has been photographed using a variety of lighting sources and background materials to show the various appearances of the stone based on lighting conditions but the photos have NOT been edited or modified except for cropping (cutting to size). There will be variances in the temperature and color of lighting and/or background color/texture to best represent the item in differing settings. Please note that these variations in the photos are NOT from editing the photos to change their appearance (they have not been"pumped") but are from lighting and background changes only.  We STRONGLY urge you to familiarize yourself with the various lighting situations that best accentuate the colorplay in opals.  Bright outdoor sunlight or bright indoor "sunlight" lighting from high temperature color bulbs (Ott-lites, for example) will always be the best for getting the most color and beauty from opals.  We utilize the lighting conditions that best represents the color in opals for all our photos. Taking photos of opals is a learning process and we take pride in ours and we digitally watermark them against unauthorized use elsewhere. Our methods are considered proprietary and we appreciate understanding in that respect.

Thanks...ExoticOpal

 G'day
