Description
This is a beautiful Brazilian opal gemstone. A large freeform pear shaped opal full of bright and brilliant colors.
5.41 carats of hot color in a full spectral show. Polished front and back, only the front shows enough color to display.
This beauty is 19 mm x 14 mm x 5 mm, a large and solid, top gem quality opal. These colors flash brightly in dim light as well, a sure sign of a top gem opal. This gem deserves to be set in gold with diamonds and other accent stones to highlight the amazing display of color.
The opal is from the Pedro Segundo area of Brazil, known for it's stunning opal output. Brazilian opals are reputedly harder and drier than Australian or Mexican opals and they are very tough and crack-resistant.
Many fine opals are coming out of Northeastern Brazil, although mining and marketing there are not well organized. Finding rough and cut stones is difficult and dangerous.
Please have a look at my other opals and opal rough here on OA.
