This item has been photographed using  a variety of lighting sources and background materials to show the various appearances of the stone based on lighting conditions but the photos have NOT been edited or modified except for cropping (cutting to size). This is a very rare and fascinating piece of natural history as well as a unique and very valuable specimen of this type of material.  Virgin Valley, Nevada, USA has an area of mostly volcanic opal that is nearly all from fossil plant and animal sources.  The neat thing about this piece is that it got caught in the middle of the transformation and is actually a piece of wood that has precious opal running through it in spectacular lines of fire.  You can still see the bark on the outside of the specimen but you can also see the gorgeous opal and that helps you understand the formation and properties of this particular locality and type of opal.  Normally, Virgin Valley opal is extremely unstable and must be kept in water to prevent crazing over time.  This piece is completely dry wood with opal inside and it would be fairly simple to cut this piece into a wonderful stone or two but the specimen value far exceeds any commercial possibility for such a rare and unique piece.  Because it is dry, the long-term value and stability are not an issue and the piece can be enjoyed just as it is without being in water.  It weighs about 22ct and measures about 20mmx16mmx12mm approx.  You can own this one-of-a-kind piece for just $1288 obo~HURRY~Thanks...ExoticOpal
