Opal Shells are shells that have been opalised. Most opal shells are from Coober Pedy opal fields, with a few black opal shells from Lightning Ridge. These are very valuable.
Outback deserts of Australia were once under the sea, which is why opalized shells are now found in deserts. It is rare to find good opalised shell with good colour and a small amount of potch.
Most shells are not spread thoughout the mine, but found in small areas only. Good shells are worth more if left natural and not polished for collectors.
