These opals have grading system and body tone system
The body tone is rated N1 to N4 with N1 the darkest tone to N4 the lightest tone.
Any shades lower than N4 are not considered Black opal
Brightness is rated from 1 to5 with 5 the brightest opal.
Black opals with pattern can be very expensive and high domed or cabochon opals are ideal for opal rings. also opals that flash colour from all directions are best suited for rings.
Gold opal rings and are 9 ,10,14 or 18 k gold and the most expensive black opal is set in these rings.
