Description
Brazilian opal is famous for its bright pinfire displays. This piece is a fine example of this relatively rare pattern. From pin-points to tiny flakes, the fire forms in a zillion dots of all colors, although it is most often red.
This display is a good mix, with red the main color. It is cut as a fanciful freeform pear shape, and suggests the airy grace of a leaf in flight. A bright display on both sides and the opal is polished on both sides.
1.47 carats ... 14 mm x 9 mm x 2 mm
Cut and polished in Brazil by local miners. They cut for weight and follow the natural contours of the fire in the rough stone. This creates unique and highly individual opals which suggest many design options for more creative settings.
