OUR STORY SO FAR:

Owned by Wayne and Estella Sedawie, Opal Plus has been established since 1992. They began opal mining when Wayne's brother, Paul, 15 years ago headed for the New South Wales gold mines, but due to all the roads in the desert becoming flooded, got stuck in Lightning Ridge, the home of black opal. He quickly fell in love with opals, which unsurprisingly spread to both Wayne and Estella. The whole family are now bona fide opal lovers, so much so that their nephew now mines opal. Thus you can obtain black opals direct from the source! The Sedawie's also have old friends mining boulder opal from Koroit to Quilpe. As a family, Wayne organises mining syndicates and controls the rough, Estela is in charge of their jewellery factory and the boys help out with all the computer work.

We wholesale opal all around the world and have sold over 30,000 opals over the internet in the past 12 months. So you can bid with confidence!

Questions & Comments

momcat1990, October 7, 2008:

Hi, Estella -

I am wondering if you could give me some advice....I am making some mosaic opal jewelry accessories for my son and my uncle whose birthdays are this month (Using some of the lovely opals I have ordered from you).  I have the designs all laid out and I'm not sure what to put down as "mortar" and what to use as grout, as well as should I put a protective layer over as well?  The pieces are very tiny and I don't want to damage the stones at all..

Could you give me any information/advice?

Thanks,

Kate

You guys are always so helpful - I have another ?...I was so disappointed to lose an auction recently for an antique ring with a rectangular opal..the measurements were around 6x12x3...I'll try to paste a photo here.  Do you have a stone similar to this?  Thnx

Kate:)

momcat1990, October 17, 2008:

Hey Jodie -

I tried to paste it and I keep sending you a red "x" instead...Maybe what I can do is snail mail a photo to you..where would I send it?

Since it's an antique ring, there isn't any  info about  the maker ..its 10 kt gold and an art deco design,   I'll send you what I have ...where to?

Thanks again, Kate :)
