About this item specifically~ Here is a beautiful and very large, supergem and investment quality EXTREMELY RARE YELLOW-AMBER precious crystal Mexican "fire" opal. It is very unusual to find stones of this quality and and type at all anymore and very unusual to find one available on today's market. Most pieces of this sort have been mined many years ago and are in the unattainable hands of serious and notable opal collectors around the world. This particular stone is a "plush" opal with dense, highly concentrated spectral colorplay that is optically magnified and uniquely presented by the high-dome cut of the cabochon. Mexican opals that display this sort of colorplay in a bright, reflected manner are quite rare and they make magnificent ringstones that are very highly regarded and have been used historically for some very special pieces that show off this trait. The colorplay is very very bright in even low, frontal (reflective) light but it is also extremely strong when sidelit in the contra-luz manner. This opal has a fascination about it that even an uninitiated observer can quickly grow to love. It is also the sort of stone that is so attractive that to give it anything less than its own stage in a simple bezel would be an insult to the quality and character the gem shows. The base crystal is watery, glassy clear with such dense fire that the light is actually somewhat refracted as it passes through the crystal and gives it a higher index than most crystal opals of its sort. Nearly as striking as the fire is the outrageous intense YELLOW-AMBER hue of the base that gives this stone the absolute right to be called a true "FIRE" opal. This is a classic Queretaro locality opal and it has been well-cut and polished to a high-dome that shows just how nice these large, impressive stones can be. While it would be of great interest and invesment potential to any collector, imagine what a magnificent ring a maker such as Mauboussin or Bvlgari could make from such a gem as this, so get creative, designers...this one could help you win that competition. It weighs about 3.62 carats and measures about 11mm x 9.5mm x 6.5mm aprx. This ExoticOpal is being offered at under $250 per carat ~ just $888~
