Please note that we employ photography techniques that emphasize the beauty of the stones and that many microscopic elements NOT visible to the naked eye will sometimes show in the photographs...please disregard any lint, black gemcup fibers, dust, etc. that you may see in the photos.  We will always disclose any noticeable or consequential flaws or imperfections in our listings.  These unique characteristics add to the provenance of the stones and ensure your investment is in quality, 100% natural and untreated opal. This item has been photographed using  a variety of lighting sources and background materials to show the various appearances of the stone based on lighting conditions but the photos have NOT been edited or modified except for cropping (cutting to size). There will be variances in the temperature and color of lighting and/or background color/texture to best represent the item in differing settings. About this item specifically~

This is a VERY rare and nearly impossible to find variety of opal that will make even seasoned opal collectors envious.  It is a variety of blue opal that is found in Guerrero, Mexico at the Buena Vista de Cuellar locality.  It is somewhat similar to the blue opal varieties found in Arizona and Nevada but this material has a deeper blue color and it shows a very bold dark metallic green and a little blue colorplay.  This locality is unfit for commercial mining and the opal from this site has made nearly no appearances except to the most persistent and patient collectors for many years.  The opal is extremely hard and seems somewhat brittle and so rare that we would not consider trying to cut this unique specimen.  It could be cut and polished and takes a fantastic finish but it is an outstanding investment quality piece and was acquired from a very old collection.  The piece offered here is ready for display and quite striking.  The purchaser of this specimen will also receive a copy of the original collector's id tag for this piece.  It weighs about 9.7 carats and measures about 15mmx15mmx8.5mm approx.  It is offered at under $30 per carat~just $288~HURRY~
