Description

DESCRIPTION: This is a very rare museum grade "real" opalized dinosaur bone from Lightning Ridge, Australia. This opalized bone has been in a private collection for many years and is only one of a couple of opalized Raptor bones(carnivorous theropod) ever found in this area. The only one of this specific type. The letter that will accompany the opalized bone is a signed letter from one of the worlds leading Palaeontologist...Ralph E. Molnar. He examined the bone and made a cast for the queensland museum (see picture gallery for a picture of actual letter). This is an actual Lightning Ridge black opal, partially opalized museum grade dinosaur bone from a raptor (meat-eating dinosaur). This is a superb fossil and is considered priceless! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the serious collector and the reserve price makes it an instant equity investment.

Ralph E. Molnar is a paleontologist who had been Curator of Mammals at the Queensland Museum and more recently associated with the Museum of Northern Arizona. He is also a research associate at the Texas natural Science Centre. He co-authored descriptions of the dinosaurs Muttaburrasaurus[1], Kakuru[2], Minmi and Ozraptor, as well as the mammal Steropodon.

PHOTOGRAPHY

All photographs show the best highlights of each particular opal. Photos are taken using a Nikon D90, either outdoors or indoors and are taken with the intent of depicting true color and detail. We use the highest grade photo equipment to show the opal as true as possible without having to use photo enhancement programs or special lenses. All photographs of the Ethiopian hydrophane opals are taken dry as to give a true depiction of what the opal will look like when finished. Hydrophane opals can become dramatically enhanced when wet and can give a false impression as to what the finished product will actually look like. Non hydrophane opals will at times be shown wet if in the rough or rubbed state as to show the color of the opal with a pseudo-polish.
