This stone is one of a bevy of SUPERGEM crystal Mexican opals from the famed Queretaro mines and many from the bench of the greatest Mexican opal cutter, Alvaro Cuellar. These are all VERY high end Mexican opals and they are of a quality unseen on the market today. Mexican opals are cut from a hard rhyolitic deposit and are one of the most time consuming and labor intensive opals to cut. This stone is absolutely one of the HUGEST!?! Mexican crystal opals you will ever see~especially cut into a settable cabochon shape. It is without a doubt, the largest Mexican opal we have sold...ever. This piece has been a coveted part of our personal collection and this is a rare opportunity to own such an impressive stone. The gem has beautiful pastel precious (reflective or "face-up") fire in even the lowest of lighting and it has INTENSE NEON contra-luz play when light enters the stone from behind or beside.
