Description

THIS BEAUTIFUL BLUE BUTTE OPAL WEIGHS IN AT 1.39 CARATS!! IT'S SIZE IS 9 X 7 mm, PERFECTLY CALIBRATED SO THAT IT CAN BE EASILY SET.

This beautiful opal was mined from a very small opal mine, in a very small town, Butte, Oregon, USA. The "Opal Butte Mine" is famous for their beautiful clear opals that radiate with a warm blue glow from everywhere within the opal. In addition to their beautiful blue crystal opal, the Opal Butte mine also produces common and precious opal, as well as fire, jelly, hydrophane, and contraluz opals. Because Butte Opal Mine is such a small operation, very little of their opal can be found on the market at any given time.

These beautiful blue opals are very rare to find, especially with the clarity and stability that this particular gem displays. This crystal opal was hard enough and stable enough to facet without fracturing, so you know you will be getting a stable opal that will never fracture or crack. If you look close at the pictures, you will see that the mat under the opal is clearly visible right through the opal! Any white spots or specks are just light reflections and/or dust particles. This gem has absolutely no spots or fractures, and displays a beautiful blue glow that intensifies to a deep blue as shown in our pictures, or wanes to a light gray-blue, or a worn-blue-jeans blue in various different lighting conditions. You may also notice that there is a very slight contraluz pinkish or reddish blush to this stone. A contraluz effect in Butte Opals is very rare indeed!! Though, because the effect is so slight, and very hard to coax out, we are not selling this gem as a contraluz Butte opal, which would sell at a starting price many times higher than the 250.00 we are asking here.

Images

If you are an investor, collector, or even just somewhat familiar with opals, I'm sure you are aware that opals are very difficult to photograph. Please be aware that our photographs are taken under high magnification in order to better display the features, colors and qualities of each opal. We use several different lighting sources to photograph each opal in order to show each opal as you would see it in different lighting conditions. We try to take the most accurate photographs possible, however, the actual color or brightness that you see on your monitor may vary depending on the amount of brightness and contrast used on your monitor, the type of monitor you are using, etc. Many different things can affect the color and brightness seen from one computer to another.  Thus some stones may appear lighter or darker than they did in the photographs.

Please also be aware that we enlarge our photographs so that you will be able to see the opal in detail. Please pay close attention to the size and weight of each opal, so that you are not surprised or disappointed when your opal arrives. We never change or pump the colors in any of our photographs. We also never enhance or 'touch up' our photographs, hide flaws, or add false 'starbursts' to the opal in order to make the opal look better in the photo. We believe such practices are dishonest and will never change our photographs in any way, except for cropping and enlarging. Some images may appear to have white spots or specks, which are just light reflections, fibers or dust particles that show up because of the extreme magnification we use with the camera. Please be aware that if there are any spots, fractures, crazing or blemishes of any kind on an opal, we will be sure to note that in the description, and will also photograph it in such a way that you will be able to see it for yourself.

We highly recommend that when you receive your new opal, view it in sunlight, because sunlight will reveal more of the opals true fire and colors. Or, you may also try using a penlight or flashlight to bring out the true beauty and fire of your new opal.
