Description
Welo Top Grade Cutters
4.15 carats, measuring 14 mm x 13 mm x 4.5 mm
This piece is part of a very special parcel of top grade brightness, rare body tone and highly geometric patterns of opal rough. All of this group are grades above most of what is offered on the internet anywhere today.
This is a finished gemstone, ready to set in the jewelry of your choice. The fire in this stone shows very well from all angles and can suit any design.
The fire structure is a set of rainbow towers, or columns, which is a pattern specific to Welo Ethiopian opal. Often in Welo opal, these are thin single colors, but here they are full spectrum, fat and overlapping, producing a huge solid profusion of brilliant rainbow color. This is supported by a suffusion of blue crystal color which lights up the entire opal. The face is curved in a medium high dome cabachon cut. This produces a rolling rainbow flash which is truly stunning.
This opal is cut in a fat pear shape which is perfect for ring or pendant. The display of color is very lively and moves with the slighest tilt or wave of the hand. The body tone is clear crystal shot through with ethereal blue fire.
This is a very rare combination of fire and body color which produces a gemstone of extraordinary delight. The brilliance is a full 5, no doubt and as is true with the finest of opal, it is equally lovely in lower light situations. One photo shows this effect. The colors soften and spread throughout the body of the gemstone.
This piece is easily worth a thousand dollars per carat retail and even more set in gold with side stones. This is offered here today below $200 per carat as a starting bid. Offers above $150 per carat ($625) will be considered.
