Welo Top Grade Finished Black Opal

1.07 carats, measuring 10.5 mm x 7 mm x 3 mm

Cut and polished in the USA from Ethiopian Black Opal Rough.

True Black Opal in gem quality from Ethiopia is rare indeed and most are specimen grades only. A fine finished black in a standard shape with multicolors including red on the black body is beyond rare.

N2 by Australian standards, this is a dark solid opaque stone with bright and lively green fire which covers the entire face of the opal. There is also red, yellow and other colors, but green is the main color. Red is visible at many angles and from the top, as seen in the pictures.

Natural hand movements would show the reds and orange nicely in a ring setting. Those colors would show in a pendant as well. This opal is a nicely proportioned pear cut in a medium dome cabachon style. It is ready to set and properly cut with flat back and beveled edges.

This is a rare and beautiful opal which will be a treasured keepsake for generations to come.
