Description
Welo Rough 10.24 cts
This bright Welo opal measures approx. 16mm x 14mm x 10mm and weighs 10.24 carats.
This stone loaded with nice color. This opal has a strong rolling broadflash that is extremely bright. The reds, oranges, yellows, blues and greens are very prevalent.
There is very little matrix on this stone and the color goes right to the edges. Unfortunately, there is a fair amount of cracking in this piece.
This is a beautiful piece of Welo rough, that will create some stunning gems when it is cut!
These photos are taken while the opal is dry in sunlight, and are not "pumped" in any way.
Please remember that Welo is hydrophane, and will change color if it gets wet. Rest assured though, the color will return in time.

2 questions. Are the cracks deep? And will it still cut a stone that will have more than 3 bars in it?

Hi, Unfortunately, yes the cracks are deep in this piece. It does look like one or possibly two of the stones that will come out of this rough will have three or more bars. However, with cracking like this, there is always a chance that this will not happen and that's the risk that you take if you buy this rough. My advice would be to proceed very slowly, for the cutting of this rough doesn't look like it will be very easy. The rough is beautiful though, with a gorgeous pattern and the potential to yield some high dollar stones. Without the cracks it would be $120.00.
