Description
Super Bright Multicolor RED rough from the Welo District of Ethiopia, aka Gondar
WELO ROUGH 20.63 cts Parcel 1 stone W220
20.63 carats, this stone is pure crystal full of green, blue and red multicolor fire. 26 mm x 16 mm x 9 mm. The amber body color in this opal does not run deep. A pure white stone can be cut from this if desired.
Super Bright Multicolor clean solid rough. This piece will cut a valuable gem of top quality.
This parcel of rough is solid and clean and very cuttable. There are no cracks or crazing in this opal. It is hydrophane.
All photos are taken dry. I do not water my opal for weight or color enhancement.
No water, oil, sealant, glue, liquid or treatment of any kind has been applied to this rough. No glue is needed for this opal, it is solid and has no cracks.
The colors are very bright even in the dry rough. When polished this new Welo material is simply dazzling. It rates a 5 on the brilliance scale and it's easy on the eye, a real pleasure to look at.
The color structure is generally a 3-D Broadflash. It shows all the colors of the spectrum, rolling through the rainbow as the opal moves.
Red is the predominent and strongest color in Welo rough, with orange right behind. Greens, yellows, violet and blues all display their primary hues and many shades between.

I just cut auction id222611 that looks like this. It has floral harlequin on one side. And honeycomb on the other. It's beautiful.
