Description
Welo Top Grade Cutters
36.76 carats, measuring 28.5 mm x 19.5 mm x 16 mm
This piece is part of a very special parcel of top grade brightness, rare body tone and highly geometric patterns of opal rough. All of this group are grades above most of what is offered on the internet anywhere today.
This piece is extra special, crystal clear and clean. Huge and chunky, it has a good shape for high yield. Full of bright RED fire, with secondary fire in all colors of the rainbow all shining through the overwhelming red. Offered here at far below its value, this rough will put a big profit into a lucky cutter's pocket.
This will cut opals which will rival Aussie crystal selling for a thousand dollars per carat. This material is water clear and facet clean. A well faceted opal cut from this material would be stunning. This is investment grade material. CRYSTAL!
Welo opal has hydrophane properties and will absorb water. Wetting it will cause it to gain weight and will affect both the body tone and color display. This rough has not been watered for weight or extra brightness, No treatments of any kind. Pictures are all taken dry, mostly in sunshine or bright overcast. It's been a rainy summer.
This site has a forum with lots of discussion on cutting Ethiopian opals in general and Welo rough in particular.
