Description
Multicolor OPAL rough from Welo Desert of Ethiopia, near Gondar
WELO ROUGH 11.67 ct Parcel of 1 stone W257
11.67 carats, this stone is pure crystal full of green, blue and red multicolor fire.
18 mm x 14 mm x 14 mm. This piece has a full color large flake to broadflash color structure.
Super Bright Multicolor clean solid rough. This piece will cut one or more valuable gems of top quality.
This rough is solid and clean and very cuttable. There is only a thin crust on part of the stone and the rest is pure claen fiery opal. This is a good shape for high yield.
There are no cracks or crazing in this opal. It is hydrophane. Please contact me for any questions about cutting this opal.
All photos are taken dry. I do not water my opal for extra weight or for color enhancement. No water, oil, sealant, glue, liquid or treatment of any kind has been applied to this rough. No glue or stabilizers are needed for this opal; it is solid and has no cracks.
Welo opal colors are very bright even in the dry rough. When polished this new Welo material is simply dazzling. It rates a 4 to 5 on the brilliance scale and it's easy on the eye, a real pleasure to look at.
The color structure is generally a 3-D Broadflash. It shows all the colors of the spectrum, rolling through the rainbow as the opal moves. Many other patterns also appear, including geometric patterns near to harlequin. Often two or more patterns will be present and sometimes are intermixed.
Red is usually the predominant and strongest color in Welo rough, with orange right behind. Greens, yellows, violet and blues all display their primary hues and many shades between.
