EHTIOPIAN OPAL SPECIMEN RECENTLY A FRIEND OF MINE RETURNED FROM ETHIOPIA WITH A LARGE PARCEL OF ROUGH OPALS WHICH HE ALLOWED ME TO HAVE THE FIRST PICK.THIS MATERIAL IS VOLCANIC IN ORIGIN AND IT IS SUITABLE AS A SPECIMEN ONLY . SOME PEOPLE TRY TO STABILIZE THE MATERIAL BUT WE HAVENT.WE HAVE RUBBED THE SPECIMEN BACK TO EXPOSE THE COLOUR BAR.THIS SPECIMEN SHOWS TWO VERY FIREY GLOWING RED FLASHS ON THE SURFACE-THE SIDES OF THE STONE ALSO DISPLAY ORANGE GREEN FIRE-VERY STUNNING. I HAVE SOME STONES I CUT IN 2004 WHICH ARE STILL IN GOOD CONDITON.
