About this item specifically~

The most famous opal locality in the ancient world (we can say "pre-Australian") was in Eastern Europe in Dubnik, Slovakia.  This locality produced some very famous and unique material and was considered to be closed for mining early in the last century.  There are 2 ways to get this kind of opal in a collection today.  Either purchasing old-cut antique pieces in jewelry that are usually worn from age and time (often crazed, too) and the other is going to the locality yourself and fossicking around for it with a local for a guide.  This material was one of a few pieces collected about 5 years ago and was then master-cut by him here in the USA.  It is a slightly silky but otherwise flawless piece with intense multicolor fire throughout with any light and it has precious frontal reflective colorplay so it will set well.  The stone is cut to a fancy "cathederal window" style cut and finished to a beautiful competition grade standard.  The cutting on such as piece is in the neighborhood of $200 alone and the rarity of this material today combined make for a very valuable and extremely rare stone.  It weighs about .90 carat and is a calibrated 7mm diameter x 5mm deep so it should fit a 7mm round mounting quickly and easily.  Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history and a superb collection piece with investment potential~ $1488

Questions & Comments

jeana, 3 Oct 2011:
Hi, I have a question.. I was thinking of setting as a earring but i am not certain of the specifics..since you mention that this stone will fit the round setting? Out of curiousity.. Will this stone and the stone in auction 285289 fits the same setting or similar? Will it be possible to get a picture of the two stones side by side in a video?
