THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AND HAPPY BIDING!
In case you are interested, whom you are dealing with, here is me, doing my stuff.
It is a real adventure and lots of hard work, mixed with self denial, personal and financial risks to get some salable opal out of the ground. Many books have been and are still being written about these adventures by passionate opal lovers like my good friends Len Cram and Steve Aracic, to name the best. However, very few human feelings match the excitement and anticipation when you ever so carefully peel away millions of years old sediments with your pick 60 feet plus underground in wonderment, to gouge a piece of rough opal nobody ever touched or seen before. Not knowing if it’s a worthless piece of potch or a highly prized gem or anything in between. Some people say it is like waiting for the ball to drop on a roulette wheel after you just put the last few months of hard work, blood, sweat and tears plus all you have, on just one number! Not far off, I may add!It is worth “ all the tee in china” as they say, however when you sit at your cutting machine, just finished rubbing back a black opal nobby worth a few thousand bucks per carat, wow!!! And double wow!!... The piece in the picture was mined at Allah’s rush at the Coocoran field’s Lightning Ridge. I cut a beautiful 3.4 carat green orange gem. Sod it for AUD$1800 to an overseas buyer visiting Lightning Ridge. Fell in love with opal many years ago. Mining and cutting is what I like doing the best.( had to slow down on the mining bit lately due to health reasons) The selling part is not my favorite past time simply because, after the looking for, finding, digging, cutting and polishing, one tends to get attached to every piece of opal one handles. However, beautiful opal the Queen of gems, whether for investment or adornment must be shared and admired worldwide. (Need to be sold to make a living, that is!)The opals you purchase from me are sold direct at miners prices not retail. I am a member of the Lightning Ridge Miners Association and get most of my opals valued by the associations pricing board locally at Lightning Ridge. For my part, I will try to provide you with the best opals I have at hand whether in rough, rubs, cut stones, fossils, and specimens or set in fine jewellery.Look forward to selling you some nice opal.
