Description
A pretty pear from Lightning Ridge fields. This is a bit of an odd stone, cut for a different kind of jewelry designer. In cutting, I left a bit of the black potch matrix along one side and a bit of the same in the back nearby. This has produced an opal with a mixed body tone, an electric purple blue jelly with green blue and purple flake flashfire pattern, clear and light in half and dark in the upper half.
Ordinarily I would have trimmed the side potch and taken off the darker area in the back, and produced a solid clear crystal jelly opal, like several others I have in auctions here and hundreds featured by other cutters and dealers here on OA.
So I left the inclusions (see how now they're inclusions? Soon they will be design elements) and made an opal that's a little different, for those who seek the unusual in Lightning Ridge opals.
7 mm x 13 mm x 3 mm in a freeform pear shape for necklace, pendant or ring. The mixed body tone shows off the electric purples, blues and greens of the fire's pattern.
The mixed body tone adds an unusual element which lends itself to design possibilities not suggested by more conventional opals. 1.75 carats
Free shipping via USPS first class. Please have a look at my other opal featured here on OA. Combined orders always get free bonus opal.
